I would like to share a reflection on a passage we know well, but whose simplicity hides a powerful truth for our daily lives and our community.
Luke 23:26: “As they led Him to the cross, they took a certain Simon of Cyrene, who was returning from the fields, and they laid the cross on him to carry it behind Jesus.”
As Jesus moved forward, exhausted by the crushing weight of the cross, Simon of Cyrene, simply passing by, was designated by the soldiers to carry this burden. Suddenly, he found himself walking behind Jesus.
The Shared Burden 
Simon didn’t just carry a heavy beam. By walking with Jesus, he shared a unique moment of intimacy and suffering. Under that weight, he met Jesus’ gaze: strength, dignity, and infinite compassion. At that moment, Simon realized he was doing more than just a chore; he was participating in one of the greatest acts of love in history 
.
Lesson for Our Daily Lives 
This encounter reminds us of an essential truth: helping someone requires neither preparation, nor wealth, nor status. Simon was just a traveler returning from the fields. His act was simple: being present and accepting to share the burden.
How many times can we be a change for someone? A word of encouragement, a listening ear, a little help… even a simple gesture can lighten an immense burden.
